Old Fence-New Fence

Today my son Heath and I removed the old ugly fence that separated the Yellow House from the Barn and Cottage and replaced it with a split rail fence using materials from the fence we had taken down a few weeks ago around the veggie garden.  Here is the before and after!

That old birdbath is outta there!  As is the ancient wooden pillar.

The door my son is standing in used to be on the Yellow House side of the old fence - it is the old swimming pool room.  Now anyone who resides in the Barn gets to use that little room for storage.  We haven't been in that room for years as a huge rambling rose "Seven Sisters" got so big and thorny we couldn't get back there.  Now that rose will be better maintained and can lie on the new fence and kept in check.  All those rambling roses I cut back to extremes are sending out lots of brand new shoots and branches.  They have recovered well because they grow on their own roots rather than a graft.  I only buy and grow "own root" roses because they can take anything and live longer than grafted roses.  I am anxious to have these rose beds healed and manicured, grass grown in in the areas where I removed so many flowers, rose, etc and for all the clean up.  Pictures later on in the season should show much change and improvement.  Now it's time to work on the Rye yard!
Scottie hung out with us as we worked.
I meant to add these other scone pictures on yesterday's post but neglected to do so - here they are.  These are the chocolate chip ones.  I had one just as they came out of the oven and they were really good too.  I really hope some of you will try the oatmeal maple scone recipe I posted - fabulous!
