Stock Tank Area Makeover!

I meant to blog tonight about our trip to NYC Monday and Tuesday of this week because I have so many fabulous things to tell with pictures about all the bakeries and neighborhoods I explored while Dan was in business meetings and I also spent several hours in the Fieldston area of the Bronx at the most glorious public garden, Wave Hill.  That will hopefully happen tomorrow.  More immediately, the veggie garden area of the pool yard got a makeover today.  Early last week Dan applied grass killer to this area and I added those cobbled granite pavers you see there and left them raised a bit to capture the stone once it would be installed.  Today I went and got a yard of large river rock from Greenside Up Landscaping in Greenland and then the real fun began.  First I laid down landscaping plastic over the dead grass, cutting it to fit and placing the edges underneath the granite pavers.  Since I had to leave the trailer parked up in the driveway which is quite a walking distance from the back yard as the trailer was too heavy with stone to drive it down here, I had to load up a wheelbarrow's worth of stone countless times and then pour it on thick over the plastic.  That larger size stone is not easy to rake nor shovel at all!  This project took all day but it was sunny, gorgeous, I had Pandora country radio blasting so I could sing my heart out and I drank a lot of Diet Mtn. Dew.  Dan helped me near the end when my body was about to give out mostly from lack of water and I was grateful.  Look at how much better it looks now!

Here I am at the end of the job, filthy, happy, ready for dinner especially as I had only eaten two nectarines for lunch!  We had the missionaries and our dear friends Kasi, Richard and Logan Clark over for dinner so I had to rush inside while Dan grilled and cooked to change my shirt, wash my legs and arms and refresh my hairdo.

  1. Wow! You did a great job on the landscaping. Everything looks nice, especially those stock tank as raised beds. Speaking of the tanks, it’s a good thing you decided to use them rather than just using pots. It seems to be a lot sturdier and convenient for the plants. Anyway, thanks for sharing this with us. Have a great day!

  2. The idea of using a raised stock tank really makes your landscaping look modern and chic. I have a small backyard and it seems like they would be perfect for planting tomatoes or other vegetables. I'm glad it also didn't take you too long to finish.
