Stuff to brighten a gloomy day

Today has been raw and rainy.  We have family in town and we decided this would be a down day; stay at home, bake, make homemade lasagna, build a fire in the family room, play games, read, etc.  I made blueberry muffins for breakfast, picked some dahlias from the garden to cheer the kitchen, Dan made his famous red sauce with help from grandkids, Kara did her laundry and caught up on emails, Charades was played down by the fire, I updated pictures on my computer, etc.  At 1 pm we decided to head to Newburyport to visit Richdale Market and take the grandkids in to see the fabulous candy section we've been talking about all week.  We each got a half bag full. We went into a couple antique shops where Kara found little glass bottles to add to her collection and I found this great vase you see above for 12 bucks to put some dahlias in. We then headed to Annarosa's Bakery in Salisbury to buy sourdough to have on hand and a big baguette to go with tonight's lasagna. Then off to the Soucy's to pick up granddaughter Abby to come play at our house.  Now the lasagna is baking, I made 2 loaves of chocolate chocolate chip zucchini banana bread that are baking too, the rest of the household is down in the family room doing homework and reading by the fire, it's still gloomy outside but totally cheery and cheer inside.

I ate some and now they're going in the freezer for my own protection
