That Day In Pictures - Mona Lisa

You already know that I have a "van Gogh" hanging in the den but did you know that we also have the Mona Lisa hanging in the hall on our third floor?  Yep.

My son Heath had to do a report on Leonardo Da Vinci when he was in the 5th grade and had to also recreate one of his works.  So off we went to buy a canvas and paints.  I did not see his masterpiece until it had been graded and brought home and I thought it was so charming that I hung it above his bed where it remained for about 5 years.
I could not find a picture with the angle of his room that had the shot of the Mona Lisa hanging over his bed but if you look real hard above his pillows on the left, you can tell it's there.  Heath had a small journal that he occasionally wrote in and he kept it hidden behind that picture inside the wooden frame of the canvas.  His siblings never knew it was there but I did.

Eventually he wanted it off the wall of his room because he felt he'd outgrown it and was going to toss it but I refused to let him so it hung in the little hall off the kitchen in the Yellow House until we moved out a couple years ago.  Now it hangs in our house here in Rye on the wall on the third floor where all the grandkids like to stay and hang out.  A couple months ago, two of our grandkids were staying in one of the bedrooms up there and they insisted that the Mona Lisa come off the wall and be turned around during their stay because her eyes creeped them out - hee!  She will probably hang there for at least as long as I live.  And when I die, Heath can inherit her and perhaps appreciate her and the memory of that long ago project.

I love her - I've seen the original one in person at the Louvre in Paris but I prefer this one.
Framing art with my feet as I talk to my mom on the phone while lying on the floor in front of the fire today.
Because it was cold out and icy and misty and wonderful.

  1. That's actually a very expressive representation of Mona by Heath. He should keep it and let his kids see it, not destroy it like someone I know did of all their childhood photos...
