Did you or your kids ever watch Dexter's Laboratory? I never actually watched it but I could hear it playing on the TV all the time as my kids watched it. It would crack me up when I'd hear the little cartoon genius say the expression in french for cheese omelette while at the same time not understanding why he always said it. Hilarious! I had forgotten all about it until Dan and I were in the south of France over a year ago and we were in a ancient mountain town where we stopped at a tiny cafe and the only one open in that town at that hour. The waiter could not speak English and we couldn't speak French. He named off the three things on the menu. I could only understand three words as he spoke, "omelette au fromage" so I stopped him and said "Oui! Omelette du Fromage! and indicated two orders with my fingers. Of course I said it incorrectly - it's au not du but we understood each other. I heard Dexter's voice in my head and immediately texted my kids about how their old TV show helped us order lunch. Here's a YouTube link - watch it - it is so funny! But first look at some pictures of that adorable town in which we lunched and explored. Avignon area of France.
