The Ocean Room

As I've mentioned before, all the bedrooms in this Rye house have names.  You've been introduced so far to the King Room, the Queen Room, and the Jungle Room.  Today you shall tour the Ocean Room, so named because one: you can see the ocean from the windows (but only in winter when the neighbors trees are leafless) and only from this room because it faces east and is on the third floor, and two:  it has a nautical theme going.  I love this room.  I come up here often and pluck a book from the bookcase and sit down and read a while.  But not often enough.  This room has the same layout as the Jungle room; matching slanted ceilings, windows, and floor space but the decor is totally different.

When we first looked at the house, a teen aged girl occupied this room and you'll see how vastly different it looks now with a redo.  Here are several before pics and then the afters.  And like all the rooms in this house, it contains furniture from both of our before marriage former houses, a couple new pieces we found together and new linens.

Do you notice the black carpet and groovy beaded window and closet treatments?  Here is what it looks like now in the pics below.  You will note that the pillows are different in some of the pics.  I took the navy ones out and made a new large wide one instead.

First you go up these stairs to the third floor.  The Ocean room is the first door on the left and the Jungle room is just beyond it on the same side.  There is a cute little bead board walled bathroom we remodeled on the right side of that hall but that is a future post!
You walk in the door and this is what you see facing you.

We found that little dresser at Sage Farm Antiques in North Hampton.

I bought the book case unfinished and then primed and painted it with a nay milk paint and then rubbed an antique stain all over it to age it a bit.  You can't really tell unless you see it up close and personal.  The books are children and young adult - lots of classics in there previously read by and read from to all of our children once upon a time.
Window valance shows up here.  And the new wide pillow cover.

The room at night.  The window is bare here but both now have valances you might have noticed in other pictures.  I made those a couple months ago.  Isn't this room cheery and cheer?  The grandies really love sleeping in here!
I love rooms with slanted walls and ceilings.  It's a small room yet it doesn't feel confining or crowded when you are in it.
